Janette Behind-the-Scenes: Living With a Disabled Foot, Hospital Reality & What I Saw in a Washroom

This Janette Behind-the-Scenes takes you with me to Toronto Western Hospital’s Orthopedic Clinic as I navigate ongoing care for my damaged, disabled right foot—a condition that affects my mobility, independence, and ability to work. But this visit wasn’t just about medical appointments. What I encountered inside a ladies’ washroom stopped me in my tracks and raised serious questions about public spaces, safety, respect, and accountability, especially in places meant for healing. This segment is not about shock value. It’s about reality—the unfiltered moments people living with disabilities, chronic health issues, and caregiving responsibilities experience every day but rarely feel safe enough to share. This is the side of life you don’t see on red carpets. And it matters.
