In this Q & Q with Janette segment, Janette answers listener Terri Adams who wants to know: What are 5 Pieces of Advice You’d Give to Women Interested in Working in Media?
"Canada has two seasons: winter and hockey.” Hockey is a central aspect of Canadian culture even for Canadian women. Whether through growing participation in women’s hockey teams or as a bonding experience with their male counter-parts, women's hockey is not just about the sport. I's a movement for equality and representation in athletics that continues to gain momentum thanks to trailblazers like Hockey Legend Marcel Dionne. Regarded among the greatest Canadian hockey players in history and known as "Little Beaver," Marcel Dionne was born in Drummondville, Quebec. He had an illustrious 18-season career in the NHL, playing for the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers. Internationally Dionne played for the Canadian National Team at two Canada Cups and three World Championships. An extraordinary scorer, Dionne became the league’s second-highest all-time scorer when he retired in 1989. He earned numerous accolades, including the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer in 1980 and two Lady Byng Memorial Trophies for sportsmanship. In 1992, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 2017, Dionne was named of the top ‘100 Greatest NHL Players.’ He remains celebrated for his offensive skill and consistency, particularly during his time with the Kings, where he led the famed "Triple Crown Line" I caught-up with him at Niagara Falls Comic Con to talk all things Hockey, how his career began, life off the ice, building a successful business, and lots more!
