Janette’s Tips ’N’ Sips: Banana Peel for Younger-Looking Skin? I Tried This Viral Beauty Hack! 🍌✨
What if your next beauty treatment is sitting in your fruit bowl? 🍌✨ On this edition of Janette’s Tips ’N’ Sips, I’m trying one of the internet’s simplest DIY beauty trends: rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your face. Banana peels contain naturally occurring antioxidant compounds, which is one reason this inexpensive beauty hack has attracted so much attention. But can rubbing one directly on your skin really make it look smoother, brighter, firmer or less wrinkled? I’m putting it to the test! I’ll show you how I use the inside of a fresh banana peel on clean skin and share how my skin looks and feels afterward. One important reality check: While banana peels contain antioxidants, dermatologists say there currently isn’t scientific evidence showing that rubbing banana peel directly on your face reduces wrinkles or produces meaningful anti-aging results. That doesn’t mean we SAVVY women over 40 can’t have some fun experimenting with an inexpensive beauty hack! ☕ So grab your favourite Sip and join me for another simple pleasure, smart find and little everyday luxury on Janette’s Tips ’N’ Sips. Would YOU put a banana peel on your face? Tell me in the comments! “My skin feels smoother and looks brighter to me after trying it.” That keeps my personal observation separate from a medical/anti-aging claim. THE BEAUTY SCIENCE — WHAT YOU CAN SAY Banana peels have been shown to contain antioxidant compounds, including phenolics and flavonoids. Antioxidants are relevant to skincare because oxidative stress contributes to visible skin aging. But there’s an important distinction: having antioxidants in banana peel does not prove that rubbing raw banana peel onto your face will deliver those compounds effectively enough to tighten skin or reduce wrinkles. Cleveland Clinic specifically says there’s no scientific evidence showing that rubbing banana peel on the face provides those claimed benefits. For proven anti-aging basics, dermatologists continue to recommend things such as daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and moisturizer; moisturizer itself can temporarily plump skin so fine lines appear less noticeable.
